Log.8: The Capitol*
*TN(translator's note)- I've chosen to translate the Japanese word "kaito" as "the Capitol". The kanji for "kai" (katamari) carries a meaning of "lump" or "clod". The other letter means capitol. So although it's the capitol, it’s nothing particularly spectacular.

P10:

Killy: Hold on a second!!
P13:

Killy: May I ask a question?
Killy: Can you speak?

P15:

Killy: Wait! I just...

P21:

Killy: Smoke... Means people.
Voice: Yeah, he just started on the job too.
Killy: I don't mean any harm, I'd just like to ask a few questions.

P22:

Killy:.....
Tettan: Well, I guess I'd better make it there in one piece!
Clerk: Tettan, have a safe trip.
TN: The greeting used here literally means "pay attention". However, it is used quite lightly (and frequently) as a parting phase. Fits in with the clerk's generally apathetic tone.

P23:

Clerk: What is it? If you're looking for work, I can't employ.
Killy: I'm looking for someone who carries net genes.
Killy: A human who can reflect letters and pictures in their retina- never heard of it?

P24:

Clerk: Na-, I never heard 'a anything like that. 3 buildings up there's a sterile gruel shop, could ask there.
TN: If anyone knows a better way to translate the shop’s name here, please tell me.  It seems to be something the author made up, but I could be mistaken.

Old Guy: I've heard of a "genetic engineer" over in the Capitol.
Killy: "The Capitol"? Are there people there also?
Clerk: They’re all over, of course
Killy: Where is that?

P25:

Clerk: Where? You mean....
Killy: Tell me how to get there!
Clerk: *sigh* Tettaaaaaaaaaaan!

P26:

Clerk: This kid's looking for somethin' - says he wants to go over to the Capitol. You wanna take the poor little guy with you?
Clerk: Well, there you go
Old Guy1: Nami, you know, just 'cause the guy's small, it doesn't mean he's a kid, you know.
Old Guy2: A lot of different races around, and all that.

P27:

Tettan: Shut the door for me, Yoshio
Tettan: You ever helped out on a transport before?

P28:

Killy: Never.
Tettan: Well, anyway, we're departing.
Tettan: Don't worry 'bout the door, Yoshio'll get it.

P29:

Tettan: Have a seat over there.
Tettan: Yoshio, this Kid wants to head over to the capitol. Anyway, I decided to let him on board. Don't mind, do you?
Yoshio: Of course not. What's 'is name?
Killy: I'm Killy.

P31:

Tettan: Don't get all hard on me over there. Nothing to do 'till we hit the pipe brush, anyway.
Yoshio: Overheard you talking to the manager back there. Looking for perfect genes?
Killy: You know something about that?
Yoshio: Not details. You're referring to primitive man aren't you? The ones who could communicate directly with governors?

P32:

Killy: Governors!? They're around these parts too?
Yoshio: What, you don't know that either?
Yoshio: This here is called the "abandoned level". The Governors haven’t bothered with these parts in a long time...
Tettan: Where the hell did you come from anyway?
Killy: Far. I came across the bridge out side.
Yoshio: Wa-Ho! That's the shit! I did a lot of crazy crap back when I was little too. Lived through it all!

P33:

Killy: I'm not a child.
Killy: My growth period has long since finished.
Tettan: Now that you mention it, I have heard of some people like that.
Yoshio: Yeah. He did say he came from far away.
Tettan: Say, you want me to ask the Corp's dock boys about that gene stuff?
Killy: The Corp?
Tettan: Bio-Electrical Corporation. The buyer of our cargo. Big scientist group in the capitol.

P34:

Tettan: Here's the pipe brush, Get ready for a skivvie* attack.
*TN: The Japanese reading is "karado". The kanji have a meaning of "dried" and "person".

P35:

Killy: skivvie?
Tettan: Those white bastards. You know, the ones whose faces all look about the same-
Tettan: There's a gun in the back. Get it ready.
Killy: If it's a just a gun, I already have one.
Yoshio: Tett- Look at this!
Tettan: That's Saki's boat, ain't it. The skivvies got him alright.

P36:

Tettan: How?s it look, Yoshio?
Yoshio: Fine, nothing's close.
Tettan: What the.... that's Saki's helper.
Yoshio: Tettan!! Above you!!!

P38:

Tettan: Get in, you fucking idiot!!

P48:

Killy: Tett!
Yoshio: Killy!! Killy!! Hurry up and stop him!

P50:

Yoshio: Hold on for dear life, kid!
Yoshio: The Capitol's not far! Hang in there!

P54:

Yoshio: That's the corporation's dock boys.

P55:

Yoshio: But man! You really took 'em out back there!  I don’t think the cargo took any damage at all!

P57:

Yoshio: Apparently, the skivvies' bodies are pretty easily made. I talked with one of the Corp. boys a while back about transplants. Kinda busted up my liver. But anyway, that neutral sex stuff is NOT for me.
Killy: So they weren't simply plundering after all.

P58:

Yoshio: What the hell, you just wake up or something?

P61:

Worker: RUN FOR IT!! That's a gravitational beam emitter!

LOG9 - The Corporation

P76:

Killy: Hey
Killy: You know where the corporation is located?

P80:

Killy: What was that just now?
Laborer: Laborers who opposed the corporation. Got executed
Laborer: You... from outside?
Killy: Yes.

P81:

Laborer: Well, if you're looking for work, head to the corp's front office. You can get registered there.
Laborer: But if you're here for something else...
Laborer: Go down
Laborer: You should be able to slip in the others there.

P84:

Laborer1: Hold on-
Laborer1: Are you Killy?

P85:

Laborer2: Was it really THIS guy?
Laborer3: No mistake here, man. We stole this info direct from the corp
Laborer1: You're the one who took out the docks this morning, right?
Laborer1: You've got a 'gravitational beam emitter' don't you?
Laborer1: We laborers have been enslaved by the corp for generations. We've waited all along for a chance like this! We need your gun Won't you help us out?
Killy: I have business with the corporation's scientists.
Killy: I'm sorry, but I can't co-operate with you.
Laborer1: wait-

P86:

Laborer1: Just leave the gun behind-

P102:

TN: All the baddies here (102-) have a letter which looks like the kanji for "police" written on them.
Voice: Don't shoot!
Voice: It's ok, I fixed it so the guardian can't see you.
TN: This voice uses feminine Japanese.

P103:

Killy: Come out
Voice: I can't move

P104:

Scientist: You want to get out of here, right? Then why not help each other?
Scientist: I may look like this now, but long ago I was the head scientist of this facility. I know the inner sectors quite well.
Scientist: That's... A gravitational beam emitter!?  No matter how we tried, we absolutely could not reproduce technology like that. Where did you find it?

P105:

Killy: I don't know anything about the gun. You said you were a scientist?
Scientist: That's right.
Killy: I'm looking for a human with networkable genes. Do you know if there is such a person in the capitol?
Scientist: I've never looked into it myself, but the corporation keeps records of all the laborers. Those records should contain genetic information.

P106:

Killy: Where are those!?
Scientist: Hey!! Hold on!! It's no use to go alone!
Scientist: You need electrical abilities to search those files! Take me with you!
Killy: ...........

P107:

Scientist: Come on Killy- it's a good deal for both of us. Once I can move again, I can give you a hand... and it'll be all that much easier.
Scientist: Really! You... Once you've got your record, you're not just going to leave me behind are you?
Scientist: Come on! We've got this great combo going- so don't do anything like that, ok?

P108:

Scientist: Aaaaa- look at all the bodies!! Lots of bodies!!
Killy: First, we get the record.
Scientist: Killy- I mentioned it before, but once I dive into the system, I can't hold off the guardians anymore.

P109:

Scientist: Well, here goes...
Killy: Aaah.
P116:

Killy: Hey!!
Scientist: K, Killy... Look at this... main nerve center... location... All guardians... on route... cancelled...

P118:

Chief Gaurd: Quite an intruder... The guardians couldn't find you... Well, you're here; let's hear why.
Killy: I'm looking for Net Genes. I'd like to see the laborer record file.

P127:

Chief: I'm locked!!!!

P128:

Cibo: Came to give you a hand, Killy.

P129:

Chief: You’re- Head Scientist Cibo!

P130:

Cibo: It's been a while, Mr. President...

P131:

President: Why are you here, Cibo! Your sentence shouldn't be finished yet!
Cibo: Shut up! This time, you lose! *ka-chi*

P135:

Cibo: Killy!! The President - shoot him!!

P136:

Killy: But we still don't have the file- destroying the nerve center now would just be a waste...
Cibo: There are no good genes here... But PLEASE!!
Cibo: Their organic construction methods are incorrect!
Cibo: I don't want to fail a second time!

P146:

TN: If you haven't figured it out yet, originally, Cibo was that thing in the basement. She picked up a new body, and came back to whop up on the President.
Cibo: When you say 'outside', do you mean that you came in from another level?
Cibo: I knew that the levels continue on vertically, and by excavations we knew that there were other life existed in those levels... But we were never able to exit the level we're on now.
Cibo: That's the power of a gravitational beam emitter, huh!

P147:

Cibo: Killy, you said you were looking for network genes, right? ............ There aren't any here, but one time we----
Cibo: Synthesized network genes, and accessed the net... We'd barely logged in when our equipment was destroyed by a counter program.
Cibo: Anyway, there's nothing more to be found on this level. For either of us.

P148:

Cibo: I've been looking for it all along, you know... A way to punch a whole in the mega-structure.
Cibo: The plate which perfectly covers the way to the next level up.
Cibo: Whatever we tried, we couldn't even scratch the surface of whatever material it's made of. But there's nothing that gun can't pass though
Cibo: And I'll go with you... There's sure to be net gene somewhere...

P149:

Cibo: The illumination sector of the mega-structure's lighting up. It should take up about 10 cycles to reach the top.

LOG@10 - Net Sphere

P153:

Assistant: Head Scientist Shibo-
Assistant: I've just been assigned here.

P154:

Shibo: A relative of the President?
Assistant: Something like that. A fourth generation clone, to be precise.
Shibo: Well, you've certainly showed up a good time. We're about to start an experiment.
Assistant: Connecting to the net sphere? I'm glad I made it in time!
Assistant: My father gave me a special promotion just for this.
Assistant: Is that the complete net gene carrier?

P155:

Assistant: Pretty huge, isn't it?
Shibo: All this equipment is something like a "brain" For the subject. Even with all that, it does not even approach the abilities of an original.

P156:

Assistant: What's that floating in the water tank?
Shibo: A back up power plant for the capitol.
Shibo: It was excavated from one of the sedimentary layers... Upon removing it from the high pressure, a chemical reaction occurred. Right now we're somehow repressing an explosion...
Assistant: Explosion? You mean you haven't given up on breaking through the mega-structure after all?
Shibo: No, we haven't really given up, the council merely gave us an order to stop.
Assistant: So you mean to use it! Is it really OK to tell me this kind of thing?
Shibo: The President should have known about it for all along. He can stop us anytime he should decide to.

P157:

Assistant: Do you really want to leave this level that much? Just what IS up there? Lab Worker: Shibo, preparations have been completed.
Assistant: That monitor just clicked on...
Shibo: It's connected to the subject's optic nerve.
Lab Worker: Opening Connection.

P158:

Assistant: The sky of the net sphere... Awesome... it's a success...

P159:

Assistant: What the hell is that?

P160:

Assistant: Huh?

P161:

Shibo: STOP THE EXPERIMENT!!! CUT CONNECTION!!!
Assistant: THE SUBJECT!!!

P168:

Shibo: After that I was recreated from back-up data...

P169:

Killy: Even with that explosion, the mega-structure was unscratched? Shibo?
Shibo: Yes...
Shibo: Anyway, when we reach the top, I'm counting on you, ok?

P171:

Shibo: The top is just a little farther. Let's rest here for today though.

P172:

Killy: How do I get this thing off?
Shibo: It'll still take awhile before it's healed...
Shibo: It's healed...

P181:

Shibo: WAIT!

P183:

Shibo: It's trying to say something...
Messenger: crackle------ ki-------
Shibo: Can't you talk a little slower? You're speed is beyond our ability to comprehend...
Messenger: ... optimal wavelength for base reality ... Can you hear now?

P184:

Shibo: We can hear. Who... are you?
Messenger: Governors... From net sphere control level. In order to convey a message to one "Killy" we have downloaded a proxy organism

LOG.10@END

-----------------------------------

LOG@11 -No Title-

P187:

Messenger: Due to the presently status of chaotic infection, we are unable to make direct contact with you.

P188:

Messenger: We know that you humans have put forth much effort to improve our current situation of isolation.
Messenger: However, in all your attempts, you have yet to succeed even once. The reason for this is that no matter what the method...
Messenger: any contact with humans, who do not carry network genes, will invoke SafeGuard counter-action.
Messenger: These security measures are totally independent within the net sphere, and thus even at the control level we are unable to perform any sort of intervention.

P189:

Messenger: Even now, we will encounter a steam of interference from the already invoked SafeGuard. It would probably be wasteful to continue this conversation much longer...
Shibo: So what do you want?
Messenger: The city is continuing to expand at random.
Messenger: This phenomenon has been continuing for a long period of time, and we are no longer able to determine the true size of the city.
Messenger: All hardware for the net sphere is contained in the mega-structure,
Messenger: Insecure links between levels are proving to be a major problem to the organization of the net sphere, and are accelerating the spread of chaos.

P190:

Messenger: Network genes must be discovered in order to stop the city’s growth.
Killy: You haven’t found any yet either?
Messenger: No one is able to make formal access to the net at present.
Messenger: However, somewhere in the city a human with network genes exists.
Messenger: We believe that you will find this person.

P191:

Messenger: The SafeGuard download will soon be complete.
Messenger: You should just forget that. Using the material of this tower, the SafeGuard can download as many organisms as are necessary.

P192:

Shibo: We should probably do what he says...

P198:

Shibo: I’m equipped with a sensor that can monitor all electro-magnetic waves... Right now there are huge amounts of electric impulse being sent to this tower.
Shibo: There not just send down little stuff like those ones back there...

P200:

Shibo: Hold on, I’ll try setting up a shield for the electro-magnetic waves.

P204:

Shibo: It’s working! Hurry!

P207:

Shibo: It opened!!!

P208:

Shibo: The shield!!
